Why the Duo Mattress?
A replaceable Duo Comfort top
Yes. The Engineered Sleep Duo is a 2-piece mattress: a flippable Duo Support base and a separate Duo Comfort top, held together by CLING, our patented attachment method. When the comfort layer wears, or you want a different feel, you replace only the top instead of the whole mattress.
Does the Duo mattress have a replaceable top layer?
Yes. Every Duo is a 2-piece mattress: a flippable Duo Support and a separate Duo Comfort top, held together by CLING, our patented attachment method. When the comfort layer wears, or you want a different feel, you replace only the Duo Comfort top, not the whole mattress.
Why replace only the comfort layer?
Comfort layers take the majority of the abuse from nightly sleeping, while a good support layer lasts many times the life of a good comfort layer. With the Duo there is no reason to throw away a perfectly good support. You simply refresh the comfort.
Can I buy a replacement Duo Comfort Top?
Yes. Duo Comfort Tops are sold separately as a replacement for an existing Duo mattress, in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and Cal-King. You can order any of the seven feels: Essential, Memory, Memory Plus, Latex, Latex Plus, Performance or Lift, so a replacement is also a chance to go softer or firmer.
How do I replace the Duo Comfort top?
You simply lift the top off and put the new top on.
How does the Duo Comfort top stay in place?
CLING, our patented attachment method, holds the Duo Comfort to the Duo Support. The CLING layer is quilted with organic cotton and wool. There are no zippers to break and no straps to trip over, so the two pieces sleep as one mattress.
Will a Duo Comfort Top fit my mattress?
Duo Comfort Tops are made to replace the top of an existing Duo mattress, and they can be used on most other mattresses. If you are not sure about your bed, call or text us at 866-244-0898 before you order.
Is a Duo Comfort top the same as a mattress topper?
No. A topper is a loose layer you add on top of a finished mattress. On the Duo, the Duo Comfort is one of the mattress's two pieces, held to the Duo Support by CLING, our patented attachment method.
What warranty comes with the Duo Comfort top?
The Duo Comfort top has a 5-year warranty and the Duo Support has a 10-year warranty. Swapping the top or flipping the Duo Support does not affect your warranty.
Can I return a Duo Comfort Top bought on its own?
No. A Duo Comfort Top bought by itself, not as part of a Duo mattress, is non-returnable. If you are unsure which top you need, call or text us at 866-244-0898 or use Live Chat before you order.

Two feels in one: the flippable Duo Support
Yes. Every Duo is built on the flippable Duo Support, a pocketed coil base with a slightly softer side and a slightly firmer side, so you can flip it at any time to change the feel. Our Duo Mattresses also come with 1 Comfort Exchange during the 100 Night Trial.
Can I make my Duo mattress softer or firmer after it arrives?
Yes. Flip the Duo Support for its slightly softer or slightly firmer side. Our Duo Mattresses also come with 1 Comfort Exchange. If you’re still not comfortable after about 30 nights, you can use it any time during your 100 nights.
How does the flippable Duo Support work?
The Duo Support is a base of 8-inch pocket springs with firm edge support. One side has 1.5” HR AdaptFoam (a 1.5” MicroCoil layer on the Duo Lift) that makes it slightly softer. Flip the Duo Support over, so our logo is upside down, for a slightly firmer feel. Flipping changes the feel by about 15%. High-strength handles make flipping easy.
Does every Duo model have the flippable support?
Yes. Every Duo uses the flippable Duo Support, which has a slightly softer side and a slightly firmer side. Only the Duo Comfort top changes between models.
How firm is each Duo mattress?
On our Firmness Guide, the Duo Memory Plus is 3-5/10 (Medium-Plush), the Duo Performance is 4-6/10, the Duo Latex Plus is 5-7/10 (Medium), the Duo Latex, Duo Memory and Duo Lift are 6-8/10 (Cushion-Firm), and the Duo Essential is 7-9/10, our firmest. Firmness is subjective, so you can also flip the Duo Support for a slightly softer or firmer side.
What if flipping is not enough of a change?
Our Duo Mattresses also come with 1 Comfort Exchange. If you’re still not comfortable after about 30 nights, you can use it any time during your 100 nights. You can do a Duo Comfort Exchange, but there could be cost associated if you swap to a different model. Later, replacement Duo Comfort Tops are sold separately in all seven Duo feels.
Can I try a mattress and still return it?
Every standard mattress comes with a risk-free 100 Night Trial. There’s no minimum number of nights before you can return it, but we warmly encourage giving it about 30 nights, because a lot can change in 30 nights as your body adjusts. If it isn’t working out, just let us know within the 100 nights. We’ll arrange a pickup or a donation, and you’ll get a full refund with no return fees. Each household is eligible for ONE mattress return.

Why did a mattress maker since 1931 design a 2-piece mattress?
Mattresses have been made the same way for generations. Comfort layers take the majority of the abuse from nightly sleeping, while a good support layer lasts many times longer, so the Duo separates the two and lets you replace your comfort layer whenever you want.
